Choosing books at The Book Nook

On a cold wet November
morning, a selection of pupils from Years 4,5 and 6, had the pleasure of spending an hour at The Book Nook choosing books for the Junior Library. Pupils chose three books each  and were kindly given a free book as they left the shop. Thank you Book Nook, we had such an interesting visit. All of the books bought will be on display and ready to borrow as soon as possible.

On 1st May, we took our lucky Year 5 pupils to Shoreham Academy to meet and listen to author Scarlett Thomas. Scarlett talked about the inspiration behind her series Worldquake explaining about both the characters and settings. Whenever I walk into the Junior School and see lots of shoes, I know pupils are busy choosing library books. No shoes on the special library rug! Love reading, love libraries.

Junior Library

Here's our Junior Library looking mighty fine after the addition of a browser box and comfy bean bags. Come and sit underneath our letter tree and enjoy a good book.

4Ri visit the Senior Library

Year 4 learning about the Dewey Classification System

Mr Batstone brought 4Ri along to the Senior Library to learn all about the Dewey Decimal Classification System. The pupils used Dewey Detective worksheets to help them understand how the non-fiction books are arranged. Once they had filled in their detective sheets, pupils then worked in pairs looking at one particular section of non-fiction. After gathering the information, they then worked on the computers to produce a word cloud containing all of the subjects they found within their area. These word clouds, shaped in the number of the Dewey Section, will be used in the Junior Library to help signpost specific subject areas.
