Year 8 Chess Champions

Anton and Louie - who will win?
It was a tense game with lots of support from fellow pupils but there could only be one winner. After winning all of their rounds, Anton and Louie found themselves in the final of the KS3 Chess Tournament. They both played superbly, the crowd watched with anticipation and then it happened, Louie won! Well done to Louie a worthy Chess Champion.

4Ri visit the Senior Library

Year 4 learning about the Dewey Classification System
Mr Batstone brought 4Ri along to the Senior Library to learn all about the Dewey Decimal Classification System. The pupils used Dewey Detective worksheets to help them understand how the non-fiction books are arranged. Once they had filled in their detective sheets, pupils then worked in pairs looking at one particular section of non-fiction. After gathering the information, they then worked on the computers to produce a word cloud containing all of the subjects they found within their area. These word clouds, shaped in the number of the Dewey Section, will be used in the Junior Library to help signpost specific subject areas.

Book Advent

Our book advent is well under way, only 4 more days left of school. Book blurbs are added every day to give you a great selection of holiday reads or ideas for Christmas presents! My  preferred story so far  is 'The Bone Sparrow' featuring Subhi, born in a refugee camp who meets a girl who wants to know more about the people held in the camp near her home. Look out for 'The Bunker Diary' described by Rebecca, Year 9, as her favourite book, the chilling story about Linus, kidnapped and imprisoned under ground.
Come along to the library today to take out any of these fantastic books over the Christmas holiday!
Which book would you choose?

Chess tournament victory

Linus, Ben and Joe all worthy winners
The chess tournament for years 9, 10 and 11 began in October with 24 keen pupils. This number was whittled down match after match with some very tense games. At the end just three remained, each player challenged one another to a game which led to a draw, each player winning one match and loosing one match. So congratulations to Ben, Linus and Joe all worthy champions.
