Cosy up with a good book.

Autumn is well and truly upon us. What better way to spend an evening than reading a good book. I'm currently reading Satellite by Nick Lake, one of the SSBA finalists which our Yr 9 are reading.

Set in space it focuses on the lives of three teenagers who were born on the space shuttle. On their 16th birthday they will finally be allowed to travel to earth. An idea which they are all very excited about. But, will this enormous change to their lives be exciting or a huge disappointment? Find a copy in the library today.

The Southern School Book Award

This year I am pleased to announce that, alongside 20 other schools in the area, Shoreham College will be taking part in the Southern School Book Award. Pupils from Year 9 were invited to sign up, they have to read 5 books before early December, all of the books were chosen by professionals.

Pupils from all of the schools will vote for their winning author in December, the winner is announced at a presentation held at Roedean School in January 2019, this is one of the only awards in which the winner is solely chosen by pupils.  Pupils will have an opportunity to meet all of the authors and listen to them speak about their inspirations, creative process and their books.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Year 9 pupils. The shortlisted books can all be found in the library.

Pom Pom Bookmarks

Satellite - currently being read by our Year 9
 Southern School Book Award Group
The campaign to save the pages continues with pupils busy making pom pom bookmarks in the library. If you need a new bookmark and fancy having a go, please pop in at either break or lunchtime.

Pupils from most year groups have been busy being inventive and creative, donations of wool have been much appreciated.

Alternatively, if you don't want to make your own bookmark, there are lots of other styles for you to choose from so please come along.

Save the page and use a bookmark.
